New Interstate 95 Exit Aims to Alleviate Traffic in Central Boca Raton

Boca Raton continues to grow and one example of it’s impact is the increased traffic on city roadways. Students and college staff at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton (FAU), along with commuters should experience relief in the form of the construction of a new exit leading off Spanish River Boulevard to FAU. This should relieve some of the congestion on both Glades and Yamato Roads.

Another attractive element is there will be ramps that allow people to drive between Spanish River Boulevard and Yamato Road without having to enter the highway. This should be a benefit to the numerous individuals who work at the office parks on Yamato Road and particularly at the Blue Lake complex that sits between Spanish River Boulevard and Yamato Road.

What the project will include or affect:

  • New interchange at Spanish River Boulevard which widens the Boulevard West of FAU.
  • 13 bridges between Yamato and Spanish River.
  • Auxiliary lanes on Yamato Road
  • Better signals on corresponding intersections
  • Sound wall construction along Yamato Road. This will be on the East side of I95

It wasn’t too long ago that Boca Raton in general and particularly Spanish RIver Boulevard was a sleepy, single lane (one each direction) thorofare that garnered very little traffic and nary a backup. Those days are long gone.
